Heat Transfer in Welding / Advanced Manufacturing Processes

ABAQUS FEA simulated temperature contour example.

Congratulations to Dr Ninh Nguyen and his fellow author, J H Chujutalli on their article on the topic of heat transfer in welding / advanced manufacturing processes.  Ninh is a senior consultant working in our Engineering and Materials team.

Their article describes the development of analytical solutions for transient temperature field of a fabricated body, subjected to a Gaussian moving heat source such as arc/laser welding or laser metal 3D printing, that included all three modes of heat transfers.

The analytical solutions could be used to simulate the welding/cutting/3D metal printing and other advanced manufacturing processes to generate the temperature history of the fabricated products that determines the material characterisation and solve the thermo-mechanical problems.

It has recently been published in the the International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, a Springer Nature title.

Following is the article’s citation with a link to the publisher's website.
