HRL was approached to supply and dose odorant for a newly commissioned natural gas pipeline. The client sought to ensure compliance with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) Gas Quality Guidelines, emphasising the need for adequate odorant levels for the safe delivery of gas to the network's consumers.
Gas Odorant Dosing and Testing
HRL helps ensure compliance and safety in gas odorant dosing and testing
Challenge
Solution
Our gas services team attended site with the Mercaptan odorant to dose the new pipeline. All required safety precautions were carried out and the pipeline was successfully dosed. A gas sample was later taken and analysed to ensure the levels were within the required specifications. The gas sample was tested in our NATA accredited laboratory for odorant levels, t-Butyl mercaptan (TBM), and Tetrahydrothiophene (THT), and also hydrogen sulphide. Our odorant testing procedure is included in our Environment and Process NATA accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025, ensuring the highest level of accuracy and reliability in the results.
Results
The client could confidently approve the commissioning of the new network pipeline, reassured by the thorough odorant analysis confirming compliance with the specified standards set forth by AEMO.
HRL's Gas Testing Services provided valuable insights into the odorant levels and hydrogen sulphide concentration at the client’s location. The results of the analysis would enable the client to take necessary actions to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards, thereby enhancing the safety and quality of the natural gas pipeline.
By leveraging its expertise in gas testing and analysis, HRL demonstrated its commitment to delivering precise and reliable results, essential for ensuring the safety and compliance of natural gas infrastructure. The successful completion of this project further solidifies HRL's position as a trusted partner in the gas industry, offering slug dosing and comprehensive and reliable testing and analysis services to ensure the safety and integrity of natural gas infrastructure.
